The GeeVA Heritage Festival was held on June 29th and 30th, 2012. A Festival committed to promoting Indian Classical Arts, presented the GeeVA Lifetime Service Award to Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy, of Vasundhara Performing Arts, for her continued commitment and dedication to the promotion of Bharatanatyam. Fondly referred to as “Amma” by the young and not so young, her continued commitment to make a difference in the lives of her students and generations of students, and the ultimate goodness she spread around, was self-evident in the cheers that resounded the Auditorium of the Ursuline Arts Center in Louisville, KY.
Dr. Doraswamy has been a frequent visitor to Louisville, KY for the last ten years and during her stay, has conducted workshops and training in Yoga, Kalaripayattu and Bharatanatyam. She has several students who have performed their Rangapravesha under her tutelage and her unbridled spirit is a source of energy for the young and old. For her dedication and affection towards Louisville and for making a difference in the lives of Louisvillans, the City of Louisville, Mayor’s Office, presented her with an Honorary Citizen of Louisville Award.
